Something To Talk About
02:24
|
|||
Seems to me, nowadays
Everyone has a war story to relate
To anyone with an ear to lend
Everyone wants to be a part of a tragedy
Even one that is second hand
They overblow petty victories
Pretty up the truth
To avoid being perceived as helpless
The kind who'd choose to stay aloof
Carefully construct their life stories
To be the rich and perfect resumes
Job-like obstacles, eventual triumphs
Bound together, proudly displayed
Everyone wants to be a great storyteller
With the ability to fascinate a crowd
They tell their epics matter-of-factly
Hoping for the benefit of their doubt
Or just to have something to talk about
So now every textbook case of a statistic figure
Claims to be the exception to the rule
Striving for once to be met as a gambler
Rather than a goddamn fool
Filled to the brim with all those "heroes"
Is it any wonder the world's going insane?
When everyone only strives
To come out with the upper hand

Slumber Through
03:02
|
|||
I have no empathy left in me
For vain cries and Stockholm syndromes
And all the sleepy multitudes
Who slumber through turbulent times
Too numb to feel themselves succumb
To pressures that keep weighing in
From both the outside and within
You're hard pressed, distressed
Your skepticism and cynicism serve
To mask your total helplessness
You say you've lost belief
You see a future marred with grief
Eager to bring about a change
But instead you turn to seek relief
In numbing substances that cloud
Your will to further stay unbowed
You make it a point to kick, accuse and yell
But in effect you sit back and feel sorry for yourself
You find yourself declaring war
But your battle cry is quick to turn
Into a mere "Yes, Sir"

I stay away from where the mild things are
I'd rather watch them unfold from afar
I stay away, I never had the itch
To keep within plain sight or be within reach
I keep my distance from
Those masquerades where faces that I may have known for years
Are wrapped each in a separate disguise
The venom gushing from their mouths, the anger in their eyes
Have made them very hard to recognize
And justify
I stay away from where the mild things are
I'd rather watch them unfold from afar
I stay away, I never had the itch
To keep within plain sight or be within reach
I keep my distance from
Where everyone's a writer and a fighter
Tormented poets swapping bitter verbs
Tearing at each other like starved beasts in an overcrowded den
Aching to be seen and to be heard
Their currency is misery
And everyone's intent on sharing the wealth
In this hostile desert where the thirst for acceptance is never quenched
And only mass approval validates a personal change
I stay away from where the mild things are
I'd rather watch them unfold from afar
I stay away, I never had the itch
To keep within plain sight or be within reach
I stay away from
The poison pens
The lions' dens

Push And Shove Mentality
01:32
|
|||
Your stance against the world
Does not defy any odds
Nobody owes you anything
Do not expect a reward
You mow through life
Hostile towards the world around you
Proclaim yourself an underdog
The years of being pushed around and shoving back
Have polarized your life
Assume the role of David
You make a far more convincing Goliath
But no one is holding you down anymore
Nobody cares at all
You're not self made, just selfish
You've got tunnel vision for insight
Push and shove is your give-and-take

No Racism
02:14
|
|||
No more repeating age old lies
No more
No more hiding behind scientific misconceptions
Vicious myths disguised as facts
Libel spouted by false prophets
Who keep dividing lines in tact
Ancient prejudice as the driving force behind current events
Forever will be tragedy prone
As it isolates the masses and forcefully keeps them confined
To what used to be their comfort zones
Spit it out, do not adhere
To sentiments born of a hateful atmosphere
You must not let ignorance and fear
Dictate your life's frontiers
We must resuscitate within ourselves
The ability to look beyond
Suppress selective hate
We've got to detoxicate our hearts and minds
From instincts urging us to hide,
Barricade, separate and segregate
Run inside and slam shut our mental gates
Is this our impending fate?

Inertia
02:08
|
|||
There's got to be more to this life than a stagnant existence
Obeying the laws of inertia till the bitter end
Kept captive and docile, confined by a set of restrictions
Born of a different time, place and circumstance
That was then
We'll, this is now
This self-imposed prison we've got to break out of somehow
Given the benefit of hindsight, would you take a critical glance
To question your motives, and challenge your stance
Turn down the free round-trip ticket down memory lane
Strive for clearer distinctions between the now and the then
That was then
We'll, this is now
This self-imposed prison we've got to break out of somehow
You keep resisting change
Afraid the loss would outweigh the gain
Your own restraints
Will be the ones to apply the chains

Well Wisher
02:21
|
|||
Well wisher, my trusty war time friend
Extend your hand, tell me again,
Try to explain, make me understand
The appeal of "us" as opposed to "them"
In your sharpest, most piercing words
The same ones that you'll turn
Against me having heard
Just how much I abhor
Engaging in your war
Living by your sword
You'll wish me pain and hurt
Drag my name through the dirt
I'm most impressed with just how fast you have gone
From bidding me well, to wishing me hell
You're fringing on the borderline between
Professing unfeigned brotherly love
And wishing some affliction from above
Well wisher, my trusty war time friend
My fair weathered foe
